What it does

Four things, and it stays out of the way for everything else.

The page you are on

Open it and the address of the current tab is already in the field. Press the button and the short link is on your clipboard.

Any link, any selection

Right-click a link, or select an address in the text of a page, and shorten it without filling anything in. The button shows a tick, and on recent browsers the panel opens with the finished link.

Your own domain

Pick where the link lands: the shared Snipzr domain, or any custom domain of your own. Only domains that can serve a link right now are offered.

A QR code and the first numbers

The QR code is drawn in the browser, so the link never leaves for a third party to render it. Clicks, scans and bots for the last 30 days are one click away.

Three steps, and the third one proves it worked.

Install it

Add it from the Firefox Browser Add-ons, then pin it so the button stays visible in the toolbar.

The button opens a Snipzr window where you choose what the extension may do and which workspaces it may act in. The panel closes while that window is open, which every browser does. When it is done the toolbar button shows a tick.

Make one link and watch it copy

Open any article, click the button, then press Shorten and copy. The link appears with a Copy button beside it that turns green and reads Copied, and the link is on your clipboard ready to paste.

There is also a keyboard shortcut: Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows and Linux, Control+Shift+S on a Mac. Browsers drop a suggested shortcut when something else already owns it, so if nothing happens, set your own at about:addons.

Before you install

What it needs, and what it will not do.

It needs Firefox 140 or newer, and a Snipzr account. The Free plan works.
The Free plan creates 30 new links a month, on the shared Snipzr domain or on 1 custom domain of your own. Pro raises that to 500 links and 3 custom domains for $9 a month, Team to 5,000 and 10 for $29.
Pages that belong to the browser cannot be shortened. On a settings page, or anything whose address does not start with http, there is nothing to take, so the field stays empty and you paste an address instead. On the add-on stores the link is still made, but the browser will not let anything paste it for you, so you press Copy.
Shortening the same page again within a day, in the same workspace and on the same domain, gives you back the link you already have and takes nothing more from your monthly allowance. It is remembered on this device only. Naming your own back-half always makes a new link.

Permissions and data

Every permission, and the one reason it is there.

There are no content scripts and no remote code. When you install it, Firefox asks you to allow access to two addresses, api.snipzr.com and mcp.snipzr.com, which are Snipzr itself. It never asks for the sites you visit, because it never reads them. This is the whole list.

identityOpens your browser’s own sign-in window for the Snipzr sign-in. It is the only way in.
alarmsRuns a timer that renews the session shortly before it expires, so you sign in once.
activeTabReads the address of the tab you are looking at, so it is already filled in when the panel opens, and its title when you shorten that tab. It is also what lets the copy below happen in that tab, and it grants nothing on any tab you have not opened the extension on.
scriptingPuts the finished link on your clipboard through the page you are viewing, because a background worker has no clipboard of its own. It is the only script that is ever injected. Where a browser refuses the clipboard outright it falls back to a hidden text box that it adds and removes again, which is the one moment it touches the page, and it reads nothing either way.
clipboardWriteCopies the link when you press Copy in the panel itself.
storageKeeps your session on this device, along with your last choices of domain, workspace and campaign tags, a copy of your workspaces, your allowance and your five most recent links so the panel opens instantly, and the addresses you shortened in the last day so the same page is not shortened twice. Disconnecting erases the session, the copies and the addresses, and keeps only the campaign values you typed.

What leaves your browser

The address you asked to shorten, with any campaign tags from the panel applied to it.
The title of the tab, when the address you are shortening is the tab you are on. Your browser hands that over; nothing is read from inside the page.
Your chosen domain and back-half, when you set them.
Which account and which workspace is making the link, so it lands in the right place.

What never does

The pages you visit and your browsing history.
The contents of any page, and anything you type into one.
Your session. The sign-in stays on this device and is never synchronised to your other browsers.

You can end the connection at any time from the panel’s menu, or from Settings on the web. Removing the extension from Firefox takes the panel away but does not end the connection, so use one of those two if that is what you want.

Which plan do I need?

What does it send to Snipzr?

The address you ask it to shorten, the title of that tab when it is the one you are on, and which account and workspace the link belongs to. Not the pages you visit, not your history, and nothing from inside a page.

Can I use my own domain?

Yes. A domain you have connected and verified appears in the picker alongside the shared Snipzr domain. One that is switched off, or whose certificate is still being issued, has expired or has failed, does not appear, because a link made on it would not work.

Why does the panel close when I sign in?

Because the browser opens the sign-in in its own window, and every browser closes an extension panel the moment another window takes focus. Nothing went wrong. When the sign-in finishes, the toolbar button shows a tick and you can open the panel again.

How do I remove it?

Remove it the way you remove any extension in Firefox. That takes the panel away but leaves the connection to your account in place, so also end the connection from Settings if you want its access gone.
